Volunteers Needed: Help Translate OpenSR!
« on: July 04, 2026, 11:48:00 AM »
Hi everyone,

We want to make OpenSR platform accessible to sim racers all over the world. To do that, we need your help to translate the UI (User Interface).

We currently have initial translations for the following languages (most done by AI):
🇩🇪 Deutsch | 🇪🇸 Español | 🇫🇷 Français | 🇮🇹 Italiano

While we have the basics in place, these translations need a "native touch" to ensure the terminology is correct and natural. If you are a native speaker of any of these languages, we would love your help in reviewing and fixing the UI text.

How to contribute (It's very simple!):
You don't need to be a programmer to help. All you need is a simple text editor (like Notepad++).

Install OpenSR on your system.
Navigate to the languages folder:
    c:\Users\<your_username>\Documents\OpenSR\Languages\

Open the file for your language:
        German: de_DE.xml
        Spanish: es_ES.xml
        Italian: it_IT.xml
        French: fr_FR.xml
        (Note: English is the native language of the app, so there is no separate file for it).

The Format:
The files use a simple XML format. The Key is the English text, and the Value is the translation. Simply edit the text between the tags.

Example:
<String key="Sign In">Anmelden</String> (German)
<String key="Sign In">Identifiez-vous</String> (French)

How to add a new language:
Create a new XML file in the languages folder:
c:\Users\<your_username>\Documents\OpenSR\Languages\

Name the file using the standard language code (lowercase language_UPPERCASE country).

For example:
Netherlands: nl_NL.xml
Poland: pl_PL.xml
Portugal: pt_PT.xml
Turkey: tr_TR.xml
Sweden: sv_SE.xml

Set the encoding to UTF-8 (this is important to ensure all special characters and accents display correctly).
Use the following structure for your file:

Code: xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Language>
    <String key="Dashboard">Your Translation Here</String>
    <String key="Sign In">Your Translation Here</String>
    <!-- Add all other strings here -->
</Language>

Important:
The translation files use a simple XML format: <String key="English Text">Translated Text</String>.
The key="English Text" part must remain untouched including its special chars. Any alteration to the key will cause the translation to fail and the text will not match in the application.

Save the file in the OpenSR\Languages\ folder,
OpenSR will automatically recognize the new language,
go to Settings > Language and select it in the menu.

How to submit your fixes:
Once you have reviewed and corrected the file, please upload your updated .xml file directly to this thread, and I will integrate it into the next update!

Every contribution helps make OpenSR more professional and inclusive. Thank you for being part of this community project !

Cheers,
z
