Introduction to Arduino Projects

Overview

OpenSR v0.5 introduces the Arduino Project system, a powerful new way to build and integrate your own custom sim racing hardware.

Located directly in the OpenSR sidebar, this feature provides a dedicated platform for creators to develop fully custom USB devices. Whether you are building a bespoke steering wheel, a custom button box, or a specialized pedal set, the Arduino Project system allows you to combine high-performance RGB lighting with buttons, encoders, axes, and other inputs into a single, cohesive device.

Supported Device Specifications

The Arduino system is designed to work with addressable RGB NeoPixel/WS2812 LEDs. To ensure optimal performance and stability, the system supports the following maximum capacities per project:

  • RPM LEDs: Up to 15 RGB RPM LEDs
  • Flag/Warning LEDs: Up to 6 RGB Flag/Warning LEDs
  • External LEDs: Up to 24 RGB External LEDs
  • Passive LEDs: Up to 100 RGB Passive LEDs (for illuminating device components)
  • Buttons: Up to 32 buttons
  • Encoders: Up to 16 encoders (Note: Shared capacity with buttons)
  • Axes/Rotary: Up to 6 axes, or up to 6 rotary switches with 12 positions each
